Let’s get started in the heart of the capital! The Meridiem Trail begins at the Urania in Vienna’s First District and takes us through the Prater to the Danube Island. Along the Danube Cycle Path, there are two options for crossing the river: either by bike ferry at Orth or, a little further on, via the Andreas-Maurer Bridge near Hainburg. Passing the magnificent Roman city of Carnuntum, the route continues to the tranquil small town of Bruck an der Leitha. A perfect, leisurely first stage.
Bruck an der Leitha → Eisenstadt → Rust
Esterhàzy and Haydn's City
Lake Neusiedl will soon come into view! The Cherry Blossom Cycle Route takes you through the wine regions of Burgenland. Passing through Jois, our route leads to Donnerskirchen and on to Eisenstadt. Esterhàzy Palace and the Haydn House are must-see attractions. The ride to the free city of Rust on Lake Neusiedl winds through the beautiful vineyards of northern Burgenland.
Eisenstadt → Rust → Köszeg
Experience the Old Austro-Hungarian Monarchy
Hungary, here we come! If you start in Eisenstadt, you’ll reach Rust in no time. From the “City of Storks,” the route continues to the festival town of Mörbisch and on to Sopron—with Lake Neusiedl always by your side. The journey continues into the famous wine region of Deutschkreutz and along the Iron Curtain Trail, soon reaching the beautiful Hungarian town of Köszeg. A town with a rich history to share. Borders fade away, cultures unite, and the former monarchy is revealed in all its splendor. All this paired with pure culinary delights.

Köszeg → Güssing
The Red Wine Region
What an exciting, often undiscovered beauty southern Burgenland has to offer! The route takes you from Köszeg to Rechnitz, then along the magnificent railway-turned-bike path through the stunning vineyards of the Eisenberg and through enchanting forests to the picturesque little town of Güssing.
Güssing → Feldbach
Route 66 – The Road of Joy
It’s enough to make your mouth water! From Güssing Castle, the route takes you on a brisk hike to Heiligenkreuz and on through Fehring to Feldbach. Here, the Meridiem Trail meets the “Road of Joy,” home to master craftsmen and culinary hotspots in the Thermen- & Vulkanland region. Chocolate makers like Zotter and Vulcano Ham, along with distinctive Styrian wines, showcase the region’s diverse culinary delights. The six thermal spas in the Thermen- & Vulkanland provide soothing tranquility and renewed vitality—places of warmth, relaxation, and quiet rejuvenation.
Feldbach → Gleisdorf → Graz
The City with a Green Heart
From Feldbach, the route takes you through Gleisdorf and along the Römerweg in Kainbach up to the Höhenstraße—right into the heart of Graz. The city center is a great place to linger. A visit to the Schlossberg is a must!

Graz → Wildon → Eibiswald
Hidden Gems of Southern Styria
The Mur Cycle Path takes you to Wildon and, via old historic trails just outside Leibnitz, toward the small, bike-friendly town of Eibiswald—even the ancient Romans knew the best routes to the sea. The bike route to the Groß St. Florian train station isn’t far. Ideal for anyone who’d like to take the train to the Lavant Valley: thanks to the 33-kilometer-long Koralm Tunnel to St. Paul in the Lavant Valley, which opened in December 2025, this is a convenient and quick option.
Eibiswald → Lavamünd
Along the Drava River through Slovenia
A detour to Slovenia! If you didn’t take the train to St. Paul in Carinthia, you can cycle from Eibiswald up to the Radl Pass at 670 meters above sea level. From there, a leisurely descent takes you to Radlje ob Dravi in Slovenia. The route continues along the Drava River through Dravograd to the picturesque village of Lavamünd in Carinthia, where the Lavant and Drava rivers meet.
Lavamünd → Lake Klopein
The Hidden Treasures of Southern Carinthia
Let’s head from Lavamünd to Neuhaus! A visit to the Liaunig Museum is highly recommended. Crossing the St. Luzia suspension bridge and the impressive Jauntal Bridge, you’ll soon reach the town of Ruden and the district capital, Völkermarkt. There’s plenty to discover in Southern Carinthia. The highlight after a day of cycling is a dip in Europe’s warmest swimming lake—Lake Klopeiner See.

Lake Klopein → Klagenfurt
The Lindwurm in the Alpe-Adria City
From Lake Klopeiner See, the trail winds its way through enchanting villages to Tainach and Grafenstein, accompanied by the glistening water, where a few culinary hidden gems await discovery. Passing through charming little towns, you’ll soon find your way to the provincial capital of Klagenfurt, with the Lindwurm as your destination. A culinary highlight is the Benediktinermarkt.
Klagenfurt → Villach
Lake Wörthersee and Lake Faaker See on the queen stage
The route takes you through the Lend Canal in Klagenfurt and past Minimundus, leading straight to Lake Wörthersee—what a sight! Then on through Pörtschach to the Schlosshotel in Velden am Wörthersee and onward toward Lake Faaker See. The Mittagskogel greets you just a few kilometers from your destination. As you enjoy a leisurely ride along the Drau River toward Villach, a sense of elation washes over you. You’ll soon reach your destination—the main square in Villach.
Villach → Grado or Salzburg
To Salzburg and to Grado
If you want to take the Meridiem Trail to the next level, you’ll be spoiled for choice in Villach: you can either head to Salzburg on the Ciclovia Alpe Adria or toward Grado on the Adriatic coast. In a way, all roads lead to Rome.
